Oh yea it is true the Orange Armada is rolling strong as we swept bolth days on the annual spring Giro series this past weekend!
As you have probably already read about my triumph defeat due to a wheel detonation on Saturday I wont comment on the despair I experienced today as my so called hardcase tires let me down leaving me changing a tube with 5 miles to go.
Enough of that disappointing talk...and back to PC's domination...
As the race rolled out with the biggest field to date at roughly 40 strong and the "Orange Armada" was sailing with 7 riders...the attacks were coming thick and fast as it seamed everyone wanted to be in the early move due to there recent sucess rate. But it was the attack of Preferred Care rider Jason Skalski that was the move to watch. With many of the big teams represented it was set to be the move that would make it... but A flat by MR Steve Burget(JW Dundees) caused the beer team to throw some more hops and barley on the fire and attempt to take down the ever tough Skalski driven break. Also there to assist them was the fermenting Garapow led Shickluna Team... Well try as they may 25 seconds were as close as they came to the catch. Many yawns were heard from my fellow Orange teammates as we were all chalking this up as "Good tempo Work" as Jason was certain to win.
...And as predicted Mr Skalski used his super speed to out wit and out ride his fellow breakaway compadres winning Preferred Care our 2nd race in two days.
With the giros nearing close Armada leader Todd Scheske has a narrow lead as we float the orange ships into the final week of Giro action and then it is off to the first big goal of the season...Good Friday.

Giro Round 3

With the cancellation of last weeks races and the not so warm weather experienced in the past weeks round 3 of the giros went off with a bang... literally as I picked up right where I left off 2 weeks ago. And that is off the front, just as we rounded the first corner I jumped clear after only a few seconds I was joined by 2 others including Preferred Care's Mike Mathis fresh off his spring training in Spain and also Rob Dietrik (JW Dundees). Using the hilly nature of the Rochester course to our advantage we powered away and out of sight of the main field. A strong head and cross wind was our only adversary for the first 10 miles of the race as it proved too much for the Dundees rider.
Tete de Course we were at over 1:15 as Mike and myself were alone against the whole of the field as we crested the half portion of the big loop. With the wind in our favor we now raced along the rollers at speeds averaging 30 mph...
But disaster struck as an overzealous(to state it nicely)motorist blared the horn as we were about to make the turn onto the Mendon loop... brakes were applied making Mike collied with myself sending him to the ground... after a quick hesitation I was off alone now as Mike was waiting for the main pack...
The thoughts of pain were now a reality as I was doing the time trial of my life to try to maintain my lead for the remaining 12 very hilly miles I set the pace at 25 and was holding it very well when the wheels came off(almost literally)...
With the end within 3 miles and the thoughts of a solo victory streaming through my head, on the ascent of the hill just before Pond rd, I proved myself to strong for my own wheels as I snapped a spoke sending it into the derailer and into my very precious carbon frame. I was left with no other option than to dismount and fix the ailing wheel. The lead now down to a measly 15 seconds I was back off I a fit of adrenalin drivin rage that only lasted about half a mile as the rhythm had been lost and the legs were fried...
But I did not give up as I was caught by the peloton monster as I tried another few surges which lasted no longer than 100 meters before settling back into in the main pack to my dismay.
But it was not all a loss as the Orange Armada rolled into the final strait master sprinter Todd Scheske after much bumping took the win in the only mass field sprint of this Giro season.

Cancelled!
3/18 Roch GIRO CANCELED!!! due to fresh morning snow, more predicted lake bands and 30mph winds... we will resume next week... maybe upper 50s?? TS

Ah this was the scene as mother nature, as I predicted , staked clam to both Giro's. All in all it was not a total loss as a 3 hour ride in sunny (but cold!) East Aurora was on the table for Sunday.
The day started well as I arrived and made shore I had to ride for a while as I securely locked my keys into my Truck. As the group rolled up the jokes were flying and we were off. Many sizable hills were attacked including a very painful assault on the Warner rd. climb of about 3 miles as Preferred Care Rider Jason Skalski Drove the pace. The big and only race of the day was for the all so important Town line sprint competition which was a dead tie between myself and Mr. Kevin Mahoney(JW Dundees) But since I am the writer of this post I self proclaim myself the winner!

Giro Week 1:
Well we are now in full Giro mode as the annual Giro Della Primavera series kicked off this past weekend.
Sunday March 11th Start Handlebars Cycle company
The day went very well, following a quick wheel change thanks to my dad driving me a new one from me casa (roughly 5 miles away) we were off... Adam Garlapow(Shickluna) was already calling out for helpers for his "f5 tornado" attack that he launched from the second we rolled off the bridge... I was quickly on his wheel along with the very fast Kevin Mahoney(JW Dundees), as this would be the last we saw of the main field. After the tornado was reduced to a gentle breeze Garlapow's teammate Jay Josyln(Shickluna) bridged the now 25 second gap... I drove on at a "Nyealating*"(thanks Chris) 27 mph for the whole of the first 2 of 3 laps... after I took a long pull the ever strong Josyln jumped our trio and after some valiant efforts to close the gap Jay was gone... Kevin and I pressed on anyway knowing we had a sizable lead at this point. After that 3riders including Preferred Care rider Todd Scheske, had bridged the gap to us for the remaining third of the race. With some welcomed assistance we soldiered on...
With the line quickly approaching attacks were coming thick and fast from the other breakaway riders, as I was going with all the attacks to glue the field together for Todd to sprint... 500 meters from the line I countered an attack and drove on at speeds reaching 33 mph for the line in an attempt to grab second place. I had a good gap but as another rider went for the pack sprint Scheske kicked and ended up finishing wheel in wheel on the line with me. After quick review between the two of us the place was given to Todd and I ended up 3rd on the day, with a final gap on the main field of over 3 minutes adrift.
Final results: avg speed 24.5 mph
1st Jay Josyln
*New nickname given to yours truly by the every so crafty Chris Bushover Did I earn it today Chris?
Peace out (but not to far out)...

Giros Giros Giros!!
The Spring giro season is now upon us, watch for the Orange armada to be rolling in force as we attack the Rochester and Buffalo cycling races... The only notable riders that will be missing from the Preferred Care line up are Teammates Mike Mathis who is currently training in Mallorca Spain. Also on the missing list will be Jason Sakski and Wayne Luther who are in Tuscon AZ for a 10 days of training in the hills. The weather looks to be very favorable for this time of year, it will be a certain test of the legs as this will be the start of what should be a fantastic season. Look for my post giro reports and results throughout the month of march!Ciao for now

Good Friday Course Preview

I went course scouting today in the great white north of Canada to ride the Good Friday course on which I will race April 9th. The course varies from very hilly at the beginning of the lap to very flat at the end of the lap with a 12% uphill finish to top off a days worth of racing. The course (which happens to be less than a mile from my grandparents house) favors me well as I am strong at accelerating up very steep grades. A solid 4 hour ride in the hills above Hamilton left me nothing more to do than raid my grandma's fridge for anything that wasn't moving, Cant wait to race...
Ciao for now... until next time
Ryan
Team Meeting:
The official Preferred Care Cycling Team meeting went off with out a hitch, although I did get lost on the way there which is not such a good thing considering that the Giro series starts about 2 blocks from there next week (note to self:its the 390 not the 490). Race stories and tactics were shared late into the night as we sat in our cool private room at Mario steak house. Dinner was great, and Chris managed to keep his plate clear of any meat :) as we jabbered about the season ahead and endless power files from the winter training sessions of the now past. Racing is a week away and everyone , including my self cant wait to stomp down on the pave for another year.
